In this post I am going to debate how tough it is to upgrade Toshiba laptop CDROM drive. The debate includes all models of the Toshiba Computer on sale and prior models all of the way back to 1999! This article is targeted at all ability levels, and you don’t have to be a “techie” to grasp plenty of the ideas I’am going to discuss.

Models that predate 2006 were fitted with drives fixed within a caddy or a special plastic carrier, but fundamentally they’re precisely a bare drive when they’re removed from the caddy.
The good thing about putting the drive in a caddy was simply to offer protection to the drive and supply a straightforward system of removing the drive from the machine awfully simply. The downside of this is added weight, use of special connectors and in a number of cases specifically formed front panel bezels on the front of the drives. Many of these drives that were made with a caddy are a particular logic and need replacements that fit that actual logic.
An example of a popular machine would be the Toshiba Satellite Pro 6100 ( P4 1.6G, machine ), as is the Tecra 9100 series machine ( P4 1.6G1.8G machines ). All of these drives are freely available as either new or good working 2nd hand units. The drives themselves are interchangeable with different models from this time, but the bezel colors and styles were different.
